The company was formerly known as Consortium of Precision Industries, Inc. and changed its name to CPI Aerostructures, Inc. in July 1992. These funded orders were issued against a previously announced five-year, indefinite delivery indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract from Sikorsky.

The SOW includes the design and development of assembly tools and fixturing, procurement of complex monolithic machine parts and other detailed components, assembly and integration of the complete pod structure, and required testing.
