French carmaker Renault and trade unions reached a preliminary agreement late on Tuesday in Spain that secures the manufacturing of five new models at its Palencia and Valladolid plants along with 6,000 jobs, the auto company said.

The Spanish unit of Renault said on Thursday it was suspending its plans to allocate new vehicles to be manufactured in Spain after not reaching an agreement with unions, opening the door to choosing other countries for its production.

Revenue rose 8.8% at constant exchange rates, while the carmaker said it was taking additional steps to mitigate the potential impact of the Middle East conflict.

French automaker Renault on Thursday said first-quarter sales rose 7.3% from a year earlier, well above expectations, as a jump in sales to partners including Nissan 7201.TO and China's Geely more than offset a disruption in production for its low-cost Dacia brand.

Renault SA will cut engineering staff by between 15% and 20% over the next two years, a spokesperson said on Tuesday, in a bid to improve agility and become more robust.

French car maker Renault Group's Chairman Jean-Dominique Senard will not seek a new term at the end of his current term in spring 2027, a source close to the matter told Reuters on Wednesday.
