Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc discusses the impact of the Iran War on the shipping industry. In a wide-ranging interview with CNBC, Clerc discusses the energy price shock, the recent U.S. mission to guide a Maersk-operated ship safely through the Strait of Hormuz, and the possibility of demand destruction if trade volatility continues.

The shipping giant said demand for container shipping remained strong, but cautioned that costs would increase due to service disruptions and higher fuel prices.

Maersk said one of its commercial vessels recently transited through the Persian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz under U.S. military protection. It comes as the U.S. Navy seeks to deliver on President Donald Trump's "Project Freedom" initiative to free ships trapped by Iran's closure of the strait.
